04:22 pm - long time coming
Wow. It's been a LONG TIME. I don't know why, even. I have been busy, as usual, but that hasn't stopped me in the past.
Anyway, lots has gone on since I last wrote.
The dolphins are on hold, but coming off hold tonight. I have had a hard time getting to them this summer. The Washboard Collective had to Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition to contend with, and, well, summers are always busy for me. Also, I like to be outside, in the sunshine.
The show was meh. We talked to a lot of people, but it wasn't the venue for us at all. I will post pictures, but I'm procrastinating at work right now.
I'm also in a show at AWOL gallery right now, called the Square Foot Show. All of the pieces are 12 x 12, and there are over 500 artists involved. They actually had to move the event to a larger space to accomodate everyone. I have to go pack and take a better look, as the opening was ram-packed. It looked pretty interesting though. Some of the stuff was amazing. Some of it was crap. I think I saw 7 or 8 paintings of fruit and they were all sold. Don't people want pieces that are interesting? Geez. Bad taste is rampant!! Anyway, I need to go back.
What else...? I don't know. My cats are happy, I'm pretty happy. Kat's in Greece. I'm going camping this weekend, for the first time inYEARS.
Oh yeah! Went to Seattle for Heidi's wedding. I was a bridesmaid (and their witness!) It was lovely. It was held at a place called the Ruins, which is members-only. It's not even on the internet. I will post pics when I have them developed. I also got to hang out with Sarah, my sis, which was also amazing! And we get to hang out more in a few weeks! How could I be so lucky?
That's the update. I will be back with pictures.

03:45 pm - dolphin city Okay, so I am uploading the images to my flickr account if you want to see the progress as I make it. The only catch is that I am making them available to family and friends only. Somehow, after pouring my everything into them, the idea of having them completely available to anyone on the www freaks me out a bit. I'm not sure what terrible events may ensue if the dolphin drawings were to get into the wrong hands, but I do know that I'm not willing to risk it!
Sooooo, if you want to see them, add me as a flickr contact. My username is melody4.

06:46 pm - I'm a bitch!
I sent someone an email this morning that ended with:
"Good riddance - I won't be dealing with you anymore. You're not only unprofessional, but an idiot to boot."
It felt SO SO GOOD.
P.S. Don't mess with me, I'm craaaaaaazy.

08:10 pm - visit from the afterlife...
I dreamt last night that I was in a hospital to visit my grandmother (Bebe, Dad's mom) who was suffering from acute alzheimers. I was crying and crying before I visited her because I was sure she wouldn't recognize me or remember me, especially because it had been so long since I had seen her (perhaps because she actually passed away when I was 6 or 7.) When I came into the room and walke dup to her bed, I asked her if she recognized me, and she said, "of course I do honey. How could I forget that face? You look so much like your father..."
Is it crazy that I kind of think she was visiting me in my dream? She said it with so much love in her voice! Maybe I just want to be LOVED!

07:53 pm - PROGRESS!!!! I am 1/3 done the dolphin drawings!
To prove I am doing anything and to be a braggart, here are a few of the more action-packed scenes I've illustrated:
Examining shipwrecks

FIght with Orcas

Helping humans

Tee hee, I am finally getting somewhere! I am terribly sick of dolphins, though they are getting easier for me to draw. And I still maintain that they're amazing creatures. Especially if they are really doing what's described in this book.....
Also, those stubby little feet need work, now that I'm looking at the last drawing on the screen, which makes me only a teensy bit away from 1/3. Okay, so I am almost 1/3 done. Really really almost. And once I have done 5 more, I will be HALF-WAY THERE! But I'm not there yet...

08:06 pm - my babies' baby's baby
Mom just emailed me this picture. This is my deceased dogs' granddaughter. Her momma was Juba and Karma's daughter, Aretha (Franklin.) She's beautiful!
I miss my dogs. :(

I think I'm procrastinating.

08:30 am - holy CRAP
There are snowflakes coming down right now that are bigger than my head, AND there's thunder, AND there's lightning. I don't want to go to work in this.
I have 2.5 final drawings done for the book. Um, yeah, that means that in a half a drawing I will be a TENTH of the way through. That means, I'll only have 27 more to go! WHAT have I gotten myself into, seriously? This whole thing, of working three jobs, is wearing me a bit thin, I must say. It's okay...Scott's coming soon and I will have 3 days off in a row. (Yay!)
Ahhh! The snow is crazy! Apocalypse!

My baby brother's coming the week after next. Yay!
Visit with Mel = deluxe reading week vacation.
Love times a million.

01:19 pm - my little girlie Soooo, Minnoe's been so sick. She had some sort of eye infection, which blossomed into congestion, a snotty nose, poofy eyes, smelly breath, and lethargic behaviour. I left work early yesterday to take her to the vet, for the second time in a week. Poor baby. :(
They gave her an injection of a decongestant and took some blood for testing. She is now sporting a charming bald patch on her neck. The good news is, her organ functions seem to be normal, she doesn't have feline leukemia or some other terrible disease he tested for. The bad news is, we still don't know how she got so sick. Spike is fine, though, Minnoe's getting better, and I get to play mommie giving her eyedrops and antibiotics. It's like playing REAL-LIFE house!
p.s. It's the last day of the cabbage soup diet. I think it was stupid. I didn't lose weight - or if I did, it was a negligible amount. I have been exhausted all week. I don't know how much I believe this acted as a detox for my body. On the bright side, it has taught me that while I DO need sweet, delicious carbohydrates in my life, I do not need to eat AS MUCH of them as I was. So, by basically starving myself of calories for a week, I have learned that nutrition and portion control are important. DUH.

09:11 am - cabbage soup diet I am conducting an experiment. I call it "Cabbage Soup."
I am seeing how long I can last. I think I will make it through - it's only 7 days and I am on day three. Today, unlimited soup, fruits and veggies. Yesterday, unlimited soup and vegetables. Tomorrow, soup, skim milk and bananas. Ewwww. Thank God, though, tomorrow I get to start ingesting protein again. No protein for Melody = utter mental retardation and lethargy.
This experiment is probably a terrible idea.
I'll let you know.

06:06 pm - I am a princess! A PRINCESS! From my uncle:
"I don't know whether you know about or are interested in the Starkweather genealogy. There was, in the old genealogy done by Carleton Starkweather in the 20's, a story that one of the first Starkweathers in America married an "Indian Princess." I always dismissed this as just the sort of thing that amateur genealogists come up with. Turns out it isn't far from the truth. John Starkweather, Jr., who was the third generation of Starkweathers in America, grandson of Robert St. the first one, married a woman named Ann. No one seemed to know her last name. It turns out that she was the daugher of Metacom Pokonoket, the son of Massasoit of Thanksgiving fame. Metacom is better known as "King Philip." He was no king of course but he was the sachem (head) of the Pokonoket village. He is best known for having conducted King Philip's War, which was the first war fought by the colonists. He lost, and was sent, with his son, to Barbados. But he left two daughters behind in Ipswich, and one of them is our ancestor. Cool"
Muah ha!
Dolphin illustration count is up to 30. Yi-ikes.

10:36 am - give me a hole! I am so physically and emotionally exhausted right now, I need a hole to crawl into. Instead, I am surrounded by big, heavy boxes of furniture, with more to arrive today! Thank the LORD for Ibuprofen and my boss being back in the store as of this afternoon. Blech! I need to sit down!
Tomorrow I finally have a day off, though. Dishes, laundry, litter, mopping, and working on job # 3 await. Hoorah.
I hate my life.
Just kidding! Sort-of!

04:53 pm - why why why?
I simply cannot understand why some people will not even acknowledge me when I speak to them in the store. I'm not pushy. I'm not loud. I don't have boogers all over my face. I bathe regularily and consistently smell good. I even give them delicious free chocolates.
Don't they know I AM A REALLY NICE PERSON, DAMNIT? Losers.

06:26 pm - Progress! I have officially finished preliminary drawings for the book-to-be! Twenty-seven! I've scanned them all, and unfortunately, the quality's bad, as I scanned them at work, where the scanner is less than stellar. Anyway, here are a few:

That's all you get. But, see? I'm really doing something other than watching Six Feet Under.
Okay, doing something while I watch Six Feet Under.
p.s. I love you, Nate.

03:09 pm - I'm a nerd
I have been wearing my glasses every day and doing porpoise drawings every night. I have four eyes and no social life!
I am a nerd, NERD, NERD!
But seriously, dolphins are so amazing. They are magical creatures. I should start airbrushing them onto sweatshirts and EVERYTHING.
